The Winchester House

Sarah Lockwood Pardee was born around 1837 and married William Winchester in the early 1860’s. William was the owner of the Winchester gun factory, which brought many problems into Sarah’s life. At first the family was very happy, even though it was the middle of the Civil War. Then, in July 1866, Sarah and William had a daughter named Annie. Every thing was going well until six months later when Annie died of a very rare disease. Sarah believed this was a curse on her family and. Anne’s death was a loss that she would never get over. The Newhallville Sign

In the late 1850’s, many factories in New Haven were being created to accommodate public demand for products. There was a cotton factory, a rubber factory, and many others. But what was needed was a factory to produce transportation equipment. With the growth of cities and populations, transportation was needed. That’s when George T. Newhall formed the ‘Newhall’s Carriage Emporium.’ READ MORE.

Science Park Is Not Fair

Science Park has had a strong impact on Newhallville. It was created in 1981 and established at the old Winchester Arms Factory in 1982. The Olin Company, Yale University, and the city of New Haven provided financial and technical support. READ MORE.
