What’s Grand about Grand Avenue?

In the 1865 Directory of Fair Haven, Connecticut, it was written: “Today no thoroughfare into the city is more thronged than Grand Street.” The two main arteries that have shaped Fair Haven are Grand Avenue and Ferry Street, both as old as the Fair Haven colony itself. Today Grand Avenue continues to be the heart and soul of Fair Haven. READ MORE.

Farnam House

Henry Farnam (1803-1883) established Farnam House in the middle of the 1800s. In the 1900s, Farnam was known as a settlement house for older adults. The Church and the Cemetery

The Second Congregational Church of Fair Haven is a church located on Grand Avenue. The church was built in 1830. When the church first opened there were fifty-three members. Three were from North Carolina and the others were from the inner city of Fair Haven. During the nineteenth century, New Haven 's Harbor was both diversified and active. Starting at Long Wharf and moving up to Quinnipac River to Fair Haven, the port was busy with all kinds of water oriented activities, such as oystering, fishing, and many others. READ MORE.

Lighthouse Point

Did you know that Lighthouse Point Park was not always a part of New Haven? The city of New Haven bought Lighthouse Point Park in 1924 when it used to be known as Morris Point. It is 84 acres in size today. The park is located on the east side of New Haven’s harbor. The park is also listed on some maps as the five-mile point because that is the park’s distance from the center of New Haven. READ MORE.
