DONATE Common Ground is a community organization. Each year, about six thousand children, young people, and adults participate in our environmental programs. The vegetables from our garden feed our students, patrons of local farmers’ markets, and those who find their way to local food banks and soup kitchens. Our teachers and staff work intensively with the students at our small high school, many of them from disadvantaged backgrounds, preparing them for competitive college and environmental leadership. We model environmental stewardship and sustainability for this community, both through our programs and across our site. We are a community, and we depend on the members of the community to help us sustain our work. While the State of Connecticut helps to support our high school program, we receive far less per pupil funding than other public schools in New Haven. Moreover, state funding does not begin to cover the cost of environmental and community programs. We keep program fees low, so that all members of the community can have access to our program.
